These achievements encompass the inauguration of a cutting-edge Traffic Headquarters situated at Faizabad, the establishment of a dedicated women’s driving centre, an upsurge in penalties for traffic infractions, the adoption of an internationally recognized dual-language driving licence, the seamless integration of the E-Challan system with criminal records, and proactive notifications to individuals ahead of new driving license expirations.

Violation Consequences

During 2023, the Islamabad Capital Police Traffic Unit rigorously addressed traffic violations, taking action against 8,86, 698 vehicles and motorcycles.

Notably, 1,151 individuals faced legal consequences for severe traffic violations. In a stringent move, 1,587 driving licenses were suspended, and permits for 419 public transport vehicles were revoked. Further, as a consequence of severe violations, 17,420 cars and 38,000 motorcycles were impounded across various police stations.

ICCPO Dr Akbar Nasir Khan emphasized that these measures were aimed at upholding traffic laws, contributing to a substantial 12 percent reduction in accidents. This achievement was attributed to heightened penalties for violations, underscoring the unit’s commitment to ensuring compliance and enhancing road safety.

In 2023, the Traffic unit issued 48,347 new driving licences, renewed 20,375 expired licences, and granted 95,333 learner permits. Additionally, traffic police officers and officials carried out 10,930 duties across national and international delegations, assemblies, and public order scenarios. Sadly, 32 officers sustained injuries during their duty assignments.

Traffic Flow on Construction Sites

The Traffic Police officers diligently and professionally fulfilled their duties during the ongoing construction work at various locations, including Bahria Chowk, Colonel Sher Khan Shaheed Road, Motorway, Rawal Dam Chowk Flyover, Golra Mor Underpass, Park Road, and Murree Road, to ensure a smooth flow of traffic.

ICCPO further said that the Islamabad Capital Police (Traffic Unit) serves as a role model for other provinces due to its professional approach. Islamabad witnesses a huge influx of vehicles daily, and maintaining traffic flow on roads while enforcing traffic laws is an extremely challenging task, he added.

Residential Facilities

Islamabad Capital Police (Traffic Unit) requires an additional 2,600 officers and officials; there are also insufficient residential facilities and a shortage of vehicles. He expressed his determination to collaborate with the government in 2024 to address these deficiencies and provide better services to the citizens of Islamabad.
