Islamabad Traffic Police Sets Legal Limits for Window Tinting
News Desk
Islamabad: The Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) have issued clarification on legal vehicle window tinting, specifying that rear windows may have 40–50 percent tint, while front side windows must remain clear for security and identification purposes.
An ITP official said the move aims to help citizens distinguish between permissible and prohibited tinting under current regulations. Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Hamzah emphasized that front window visibility is essential for traffic management and security checks, making any tint on these windows a violation of the law.

“Most vehicles already come with light factory-fitted tinting on rear windows,” CTO Hamzah explained. “Fully dark windows are rarely provided by manufacturers, and any factory-fitted tints must be supported with import documents issued by the Ministry of Interior, which may be requested during inspections.”
The CTO added that traffic police enforce the law but do not break or remove vehicle windows, and confirmed that tint sheets or films applied on front windows are not permitted.
Officials highlighted that these regulations strike a balance between drivers’ privacy and public safety, urging motorists to follow the guidelines to avoid fines and ensure compliance.
