Islamabad: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has announced plans to construct a state-of-the-art slaughterhouse in Islamabad to meet the rising meat demand of the twin cities, following directives from the Prime Minister.
The decision was taken during a high-level meeting chaired by CDA Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa, with the participation of the Rawalpindi Deputy Commissioner, senior officials from the district administration, and other key stakeholders.
The proposed facility will feature modern chilling rooms, cold storage, and enhanced processing capacity to ensure the supply of hygienic and quality meat.
Chairman Randhawa stated that the slaughterhouse will be developed in line with international standards, with a strong emphasis on food safety and quality control.
“The project will be implemented under a viable financial model, with active engagement of the private sector to provide sustainable business solutions,” he said.
A joint monitoring mechanism between the Islamabad and Rawalpindi administrations will be established to ensure transparent and efficient operations of the facility.
The meeting also reviewed progress on polio eradication efforts. Officials agreed to form a joint team to monitor high-risk areas, with a renewed commitment to making the twin cities polio-free.
The CDA has already completed a preliminary study for the slaughterhouse project. Officials plan to review operational models from Karachi and Lahore to guide further planning and implementation.
