Islamabad IT Park to Create 10,000 Jobs

News Desk

Islamabad: The Islamabad IT Park, a flagship project under Pakistan’s digital transformation drive, has achieved 71 per cent physical progress and is expected to generate 10,000 jobs for young professionals once completed.

Backed by a $76.3 million concessional loan from South Korea, the project in Chak Shahzad represents one of the largest foreign-funded technology initiatives in Pakistan. Officials say the park reflects growing global confidence in the country’s IT sector and its potential to boost exports.

Designed as a 12-story complex with international-standard facilities, the IT Park will host around 120 startups and SMEs, alongside testing labs, classrooms, an industry-academia linkage centre, and an auditorium. It aims to bridge gaps between universities and industry, promote research and commercialization, and accelerate the country’s shift towards a knowledge economy.

“Despite challenges such as heavy rains, import restrictions, and economic pressure, the project has remained on track and within its allocated budget,” a Ministry of IT official said, adding that an additional $12.5 million from PSDP has further strengthened progress.

Construction is expected to be completed by December 31, 2025, with the park serving as a hub for innovation, investment, and employment. Together with the Karachi IT Park—also funded by South Korea—the Islamabad facility is set to become a cornerstone of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s ‘Digital Pakistan’ vision, enhancing competitiveness in the global tech market.
