Islamabad: Director-General of PIE, Dr Muhammad Shahid Soroya, announced the successful achievement of targets aimed at increasing school enrollment in Islamabad.
This initiative ensured that every child of school-going age in the city was enrolled, with the establishment of evening and afternoon classes in formal schools.
Dr Soroya, speaking to a private news channel, stated that the ‘Zero Out-of-School Children (ZOOSC)’ campaign in Islamabad, conducted in collaboration with JICA and the Ministry of Education and Professional Training, had effectively met its goals.
He elaborated that over 71,000 children had been enrolled in schools in Islamabad through this campaign, resulting in a significant reduction in the number of out-of-school children in the capital to zero.
He emphasized the government’s commitment to providing education to every child in the province, and highlighted the comprehensive drive launched in this regard. He mentioned that the government was offering various facilities to children, including free books and improved educational environments in institutions.
Dr. Soroya further explained that teachers were actively engaging with communities near their schools, compiling lists of children and persuading parents to send their children to school.
He mentioned the use of various techniques to ensure the success of the campaign, such as converting FD schools to offer evening and afternoon classes. Despite facing challenges, particularly in ensuring equal access to education, Dr Soroya expressed gratitude to all involved parties.
He concluded by expressing hope that the success of this campaign would inspire similar efforts nationwide to decrease the number of children not attending school.
