Is Trump Sticking by His Claim of Being ‘Dictator’ If Elected?

Islamabad: Former United States President Donald Trump on Wednesday took center stage during a prime-time Fox News town hall in Iowa, where he explicitly asserted that he had no intentions of becoming a dictator.
In response to his recent statement predicting “bedlam” if his criminal prosecutions persist, Trump clarified, stating, “No, I am not going to be a dictator. I’m going to manage like we did,” as reported by Daily Mail.
Trump accused his opponents of using the dictator label as a political strategy to garner votes. He also placed blame on the media, arguing that they failed to highlight the context of his original comment, where he mentioned being a dictator solely on energy policy and order matters.
The town hall took place a day after Trump’s “bedlam” remark, which followed an appeals court hearing leaning towards rejecting his claim of presidential immunity.
In a previous Fox News town hall in Davenport, Iowa, Trump, when asked about potential abuse of power, responded that he would only act as a dictator on “day one” of his presidency to address specific issues like closing the southern border and expanding oil drilling. He emphasized that beyond those actions, he would not function as a dictator.
As the frontrunner in the 2024 US presidential elections, Trump holds a significant lead in Iowa polls, with several surveys indicating a 50% support and a lead of over 30 points against his rivals.
The 77-year-old ex-president, impeached twice by the Democratic-controlled House of Representatives, is scheduled to go on trial on March 4 on charges related to conspiring to overturn the 2020 election won by President Joe Biden.
