Peshawar: One of the most frequently asked questions is, “What is ‘Good Governance’?”

My straightforward response is that many experts define it as a system rooted in efficiency, effectiveness, transparency, accountability, adherence to the rule of law, and the eradication of corruption.

Analysts also emphasize that swift decision-making is critical for achieving organizational goals, as it contributes to efficiency.

By adhering to the principles of governance, resources can be optimally utilized, leading to a lean and clean bureaucracy.

However, those familiar with the concept often raise a more critical question: “Is there truly ‘Good Governance’?”

They suggest that an independent third party should conduct case studies on various departments such as police, revenue, health, higher and elementary education, as well as the service structure of provincial services.

This scrutiny raises further questions. For instance, why has functional specialization not been developed within these sectors?

Can the existence or quality of “Good Governance” truly be measured?

These are essential inquiries for understanding whether governance principles are effectively implemented or remain theoretical ideals.
