Islamabad: Pakistan may be one step closer to 5G connectivity after JazzWorld CEO Aamir Ibrahim shared early results from a 5G network trial on Thursday, following the country’s latest spectrum auction.

In a post on X, Ibrahim shared a screenshot of a mobile speed test showing a handset connected to a 5G signal, achieving download speeds of 1,400 Mbps. The test appears to have been conducted in Islamabad’s F-7 sector, indicating that initial network testing may already be underway.

The speed test highlights the potential performance improvements of 5G, including higher speeds, lower latency, and more stable connectivity, which could enable applications such as high-definition video streaming, cloud gaming, and real-time mobile digital services.

The development comes shortly after Pakistan’s latest spectrum auction, which introduced new frequency bands expected to support future 5G deployments while expanding 4G capacity.

Jazz emerged as the largest spectrum acquirer, securing 190 MHz across four newly introduced bands, a move expected to bolster network capacity and pave the way for next-generation mobile services.

While telecom operators have not yet announced a commercial 5G rollout timeline, early testing indicates that preparations for next-generation connectivity are already underway, signaling Pakistan’s move toward a more advanced digital infrastructure.
