Iran, US to Hold Second Round of High-Stakes Nuclear Talks in Rome

Rome: The United States and Iran are set to resume high-stakes talks on Tehran’s nuclear program this Saturday, a week after an initial round of discussions that both sides described as “constructive.”
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and US Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff will hold the Oman-mediated talks in Rome, following the first round of indirect discussions in Muscat. These marked the first high-level talks between the two adversaries since US President Donald Trump pulled out of the landmark nuclear deal in 2018.
Western countries, including the United States, have long accused Iran of attempting to acquire nuclear weapons, a charge Tehran has consistently denied, maintaining that its nuclear program is solely for peaceful civilian purposes. After returning to office in January, Trump revived his “maximum pressure” campaign, reimposing sanctions on Iran.
