Iran Strikes Israeli Military Sites in Beersheba

Beersheba/Tehran: Iran launched a missile strike on the southern Israeli city of Beersheba early Thursday, targeting what it described as military infrastructure in response to Israeli air raids on Iranian territory. The attack marks a significant escalation in already heightened regional tensions.

According to Israeli emergency services, the missile caused fires and structural damage in the targeted area, with at least six people reportedly sustaining minor injuries. The city’s northern train station was temporarily closed, and authorities have urged residents to avoid the impact zone as emergency teams continue their response operations.

Iranian state media confirmed the strike, calling it a “measured response” to what Tehran describes as repeated Israeli military aggression. A spokesperson for Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said the strike was “carefully calibrated” and intended to hit military targets, not civilians.

The escalation follows a series of Israeli air raids on Iranian territory, including overnight strikes in Tehran and industrial zones across the country. Iran’s Ministry of Defence claims the Israeli offensive involved over 60 fighter jets and more than 120 munitions, resulting in significant civilian casualties and infrastructure damage.

“Iran’s action was defensive in nature,” said a senior official in Tehran, condemning what he labeled as “unprovoked and unlawful Israeli aggression.”

The latest developments have sparked renewed fears of a broader regional conflict. Iranian leaders also condemned ongoing Israeli operations in Gaza, where at least 34 Palestinians have reportedly been killed since midnight. Among the dead, according to Iranian officials, are 23 civilians shot while attempting to receive aid near the Netzarim Corridor.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry has urged the international community to step in to prevent further escalation. “Continued Israeli attacks risk plunging the region into full-scale war,” a ministry spokesperson warned, calling on global powers, including the United States and United Kingdom, to press for immediate diplomatic engagement.

The missile strike on Beersheba represents a dramatic shift in the conflict’s geography, potentially signaling a new phase of direct confrontation between Iran and Israel, as both sides exchange threats and accusations amid calls for restraint.
