Iqra Aziz Under Fire for Instagram Story on Daycare Abuse
News Desk
Islamabad: Pakistani actress Iqra Aziz has come under heavy criticism for remarks she made about the brutal assault of a 15-month-old girl at a daycare centre in Noida, India, with many accusing her of being “tone-deaf” and “privileged.”
The controversy follows a disturbing incident in Noida, where CCTV footage allegedly captured a daycare maid repeatedly slapping a toddler, throwing her to the floor, and hitting her with a plastic belt while issuing verbal threats.
Police confirmed the suspect’s arrest and said a case had been registered under relevant laws. The child’s parents also accused the daycare head of failing to intervene during the attack.
Iqra Aziz’s Statement and Reaction
In response to the incident, Iqra Aziz shared an Instagram story advising parents not to send their children to daycare unless a trusted family member could supervise them. She further stated that if such arrangements were not possible, parents should “stop bringing these little flowers into this world.”
Her remarks drew swift backlash on social media, with many users arguing that she had overlooked the realities faced by working parents and shifted the focus from criminal accountability to parental choices.
“You have the privilege of having your mother around your child. Not everyone has that support. Some mothers work out of necessity, not choice,” one user commented.
Another wrote, “Let’s condemn the abuser, not parents who are doing their best. This is privilege speaking.”
Critics noted that Aziz’s statement ignored economic pressures in societies where dual incomes are often essential for survival. Others emphasised that while incidents like the Noida case are deeply concerning, not all daycare centres are unsafe and many working families depend on them for childcare.
