IPL Mega Theft! Jerseys Worth Over Rs6.5 Lakh Stolen from Wankhede

Mumbai: A case has been registered against a security manager at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium for allegedly stealing official Indian Premier League (IPL) team jerseys valued at over Rs652,000 from the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) merchandise store.
The incident came to light following a routine audit, which revealed a significant shortfall in inventory. The Marine Drive Police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) under Section 406 of the Indian Penal Code, relating to criminal breach of trust.
According to the complaint lodged on July 17 by BCCI employee Hemang Bharat Kumar Amin, the missing merchandise included jerseys from several prominent IPL franchises, including Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals, and Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
Subsequent investigations led BCCI officials to review surveillance footage, which reportedly showed the accused carrying a cardboard box out of the premises. No arrests have been made so far, and the investigation is ongoing.
The case has raised questions about internal security procedures at Wankhede Stadium, one of India’s most iconic cricket venues.
Meanwhile, the IPL concluded its 2025 season with Royal Challengers Bengaluru securing their maiden title by defeating Punjab Kings by six runs in a thrilling final. The mini-auction for the 2026 season is expected to take place early next year, ahead of the tournament’s scheduled return in March or April.
Notably, the IPL 2025 mega auction was held in Saudi Arabia earlier this year, marking the first time the event was organized outside India.
