Islamabad: Apple is reportedly planning a groundbreaking redesign for its 20th anniversary iPhone in 2027, aiming to finally deliver the long-envisioned concept of a seamless glass slab.

A new supply chain report suggests the upcoming iPhone could feature a completely bezel-less display and cutting-edge solid-state battery technology, marking a major leap in smartphone innovation.

The first mention of this ambitious redesign came from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who hinted at a major overhaul for the 2027 iPhone lineup, including a foldable model and a Pro version with more extensive glass integration. While early details were limited, a recent report from Korean outlet ET News now offers a clearer glimpse into Apple’s direction.

According to the report, Apple’s display partners Samsung Display and LG Display—are developing a screen that bends on all four sides, allowing it to wrap around the entire device. This would eliminate visible bezels entirely and enable a true edge-to-edge display, with an under-display camera replacing the current notch or punch-hole design.

This aligns with Apple’s long-standing ambition, originally articulated by former design chief Jony Ive, to create an iPhone that feels like a single, uninterrupted piece of glass. Despite Ive’s departure, his vision continues to shape Apple’s design philosophy.

The report also points to the introduction of solid-state battery technology, representing a major advancement in mobile energy systems. These next-generation batteries are expected to use 100% silicon anodes instead of graphite, offering greater energy density and longer battery life.

While solid-state batteries have been in development for years, recent prototypes have demonstrated their potential. Early accessories like MagSafe battery packs using this technology have already earned praise for improved performance, making its integration into the iPhone by 2027 increasingly feasible.

With design discussions already underway between Apple and its display suppliers, the 2027 iPhone could represent the most radical evolution since the original model in 2007. Whether Apple can deliver a truly bezel-free, glass-slab phone remains to be seen but all indications suggest a bold, futuristic device is on the way.
