iPhone Users Can Now Make WhatsApp Their Default Messaging App
News Desk
Islamabad: Apple’s latest iOS 18.2 update introduces a groundbreaking feature for iPhone users: the ability to set third-party apps as the default for calls and messages.
Among the first to adopt this functionality, WhatsApp has rolled out an update allowing users to make it their primary communication app.
How to Set WhatsApp as the Default Calling and Messaging App
With this update, iPhone users can now make WhatsApp their go-to app for calls and messages. Instead of using Apple’s Phone app or iMessage, tapping a phone number will automatically initiate a WhatsApp call or send a message via WhatsApp.
To enable this feature:
Update your iPhone to iOS 18.2.
Navigate to Settings > Apps > Default Apps.
Select WhatsApp as the default app for calls and messaging.
Apple Expands EU-Compliant Changes Globally
Apple initially introduced this feature to comply with European Union regulations requiring greater flexibility in default app settings. However, the company has now extended this functionality to users worldwide, offering greater customization.
Apart from calls and messages, iOS 18.2 also allows users to set default apps for:
Web browsing
Call filtering
Translations
Password management
Payments (in select regions)
Keyboards
Maps (EU users only)
WhatsApp Users Can Access the Feature Now
The ability to set WhatsApp as the default calling and messaging app is now rolling out to all users, not just beta testers. To take advantage of this new feature, ensure that your WhatsApp app is updated to the latest version.
