Investigation Launched into Rawal Dam Fish Mortality
News Desk
Islamabad: Chairman of the Capital Development Authority (CDA), Muhammad Ali Randhawa, has responded to recent media reports about increased fish mortality in Rawal Dam.
In response, a team led by Member Environment and Administration, Talat Gondal, was dispatched to investigate. The team, accompanied by officials from the Environment Protection Department, collected water samples from the dam.
These samples have been sent to the Environment Protection Department, Punjab Fisheries Department, and the Fisheries Research Institute of NARC in Islamabad for analysis. Reports from these departments are expected within two days.
Preliminary observations indicate that the fish mortality occurred during the last week of July. The dead fish have since been removed, and the situation has improved.
The CDA has begun taking steps to address the issue permanently, including inviting expressions of interest for the installation of a sewerage treatment plant upstream to prevent future water contamination.
The CDA is closely monitoring the situation, with Watch and Ward Staff assigned to the dam to report any further occurrences of fish mortality.
