Rawalpindi: Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU) officially launched the 7th FJWU–MCAP Doctoral Spring School 2026 today (Monday), a nine-day academic programme designed to strengthen doctoral research in Media and Communication Studies.

The initiative is organized in collaboration with FJWU’s ORIC office and the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan.

Modeled on the European Communication Research and Education Association (ECREA) approach, the Doctoral Spring School follows a student-centred framework, offering PhD and MPhil scholars tailored mentorship through workshops, lectures, panel discussions, seminars, project feedback sessions, and visits to media organizations.

Participants gain guidance on research design, theoretical grounding, methodology, academic writing, publication strategies, and grant applications.

During the inaugural session, Dr Bushra Hameed-ur-Rehman, President of MCAP, highlighted MCAP’s vision of strengthening doctoral training, promoting international collaboration, and advancing research capacity in Media and Communication Studies.
FJWU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Bushra Mirza formally welcomed the international faculty and commended the Department of Communication and Media Studies for organizing the event. She reaffirmed the university’s commitment to global academic engagement, inclusive research environments, and international exposure for women scholars.

A major highlight of the programme is the signing of two Letters of Intent to enhance institutional collaboration. FJWU will partner with the University of Cairo, Egypt, and the University of Augsburg, Germany, to promote joint research, faculty and student exchanges, and long-term academic cooperation.

Professor Dr. Mirza also announced that international faculty members will soon join FJWU as adjunct professors, contributing to curriculum development, research supervision, and co-teaching.

The Doctoral Spring School emphasizes methodological rigor, intellectual autonomy, and decolonized knowledge production, encouraging scholars to situate global theories within Pakistan’s socio-political, cultural, and media contexts.

Beyond individual development, the programme fosters institutional networking, aligns doctoral research with national development priorities, and supports evidence-based policymaking.

With its growing international participation and institutional backing, the MCAP Doctoral Spring School is emerging as a flagship initiative for doctoral training in Communication and Media Studies in Pakistan.
