Instagram Introduces New Features to Protect Youth from Abuse

News Desk

Islamabad: Meta, formerly known as Instagram, has addressed the issue of users facing difficulties in addressing their complaints on the platform by introducing two new features aimed at protecting young users from abusive or derogatory behavior.

According to reports from a foreign news agency, the platform has enhanced its Limit and Restrict features as part of this initiative to safeguard teenagers from individuals engaging in inappropriate behavior towards them.

In a statement released by Meta, users can now limit their posts to only be visible to their close friends using the Limit feature.

By doing so, only those on their close friends list will be able to view and interact with their posts, including comments, direct messages, tags, and mentions. Other followers can still engage with the posts, but their comments and messages will remain hidden from view.

While this feature was initially introduced for creators in 2021, it has now been modified with young users in mind.

Similarly, the Restrict feature has also undergone changes. Users can now prevent specific individuals from tagging or mentioning them.

The introduction of these features comes amidst legal action taken against Meta by several US states in 2023, accusing the social media giant of failing to adequately protect young people.
