News Desk
Peshawar: The city police on Tuesday claimed to have apprehended a man allegedly involved in leaking the Medical and Dental College Admission Test (MDCAT) paper to candidates.
According to Faqirabad police, the 30-year-old suspect had previously been involved in similar occurrences. He was a member of an organised gang and had contact with those responsible for issuing papers in the examination hall.
A team of senior police officers are investigating the suspect and more arrests are anticipated once the culprit is identified.
Aspirants flocked to various centres across the country, including Karachi, Lahore, Quetta and Peshawar, to appear for the highly anticipated MDCAT. With an overwhelming number of candidates, these entry tests are considered a pivotal step in gaining admission to medical colleges. The question papers and other sensitive examination materials are dispatched to various cities under tight security arrangements. The examination papers are kept in sealed steel trunks to ensure fairness.
The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Educational Testing and Evaluation Agency (ETEA) had previously alerted all commissioners regarding the planned cheating in the test. ETEA also reported that news of the test leak had been circulating on social media platforms. Agencies/APP
