India: Indian bowlers are finally gaining the recognition they deserve, according to Indian cricket coach Gautam Gambhir.

Traditionally, Indian cricket fans have been obsessed with batsmen, but Gambhir, who took over as coach in July, believes the star pacemen, including Jasprit Bumrah, are now getting the attention they deserve.

Gambhir praised India’s world-class bowlers for their impact, highlighting Bumrah as the best fast bowler in all formats. “It has not happened many times in India where we have started talking about the bowler now. It has always been about batters,” Gambhir said.

Bumrah, known for his effective yorker delivery, has taken 159 Test wickets since his debut in 2018.

Spin bowling has traditionally thrived on Indian pitches, and the hosts’ success is expected to depend on Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja. Ashwin has claimed 516 Test wickets, while Jadeja is close to reaching 300.

Gambhir emphasized their importance, noting, “India has been fortunate to have Ashwin and Jadeja, and they can create a significant impact in Indian conditions.”

Gambhir, who previously led Kolkata Knight Riders to an IPL title and played a crucial role in India’s 2011 ODI World Cup win, has good relationships with senior players, including Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. “My relationship with all the senior players has been really good,” he said.

India is favored to win on home soil, but Bangladesh, fresh from a historic 2-0 series win over Pakistan, is also in form. Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto acknowledged the past success but focused on the upcoming series, asserting, “We are here to play a good series.”

He also addressed previous criticisms of emotional restraint, noting that the team’s experienced players are more composed now.
