India Funding TTP through Afghan Proxies: Asif Durrani

News Desk

Islamabad: Pakistan’s Special Representative for Afghanistan, Asif Durrani, said that there is evidence suggesting that the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), which is banned in Pakistan, is receiving financial support from India through Afghan proxies.

Durrani made these remarks during a discussion on the Afghan peace process hosted by Pakistan Institute for Peace Studies (PIPS), a think tank in Islamabad.

According to him, an estimated 5,000 to 6,000 TTP militants have sought refuge in Afghanistan, and when factoring in their families, this figure could rise to 70,000.

The discussion, organized by the PIPS, focused on “Afghan Peace and Reconciliation: Pakistan’s Interests and Policy Options”.

Durrani explained that past attempts at peace talks with the TTP failed because the group refused to disarm and refused to pledge allegiance to the Pakistani constitution.
