Peshawar: The independent candidates are grouping up to find out a way to complete the required numbers for a government in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP).
A total of 73 seats are required in the provincial House to establish a government, but independent candidates have successfully secured 91 out of 113 seats, with 89 of them being supported by the PTI.
A close associate of the former speaker of the KP Assembly, Mushtaq Ghani, stated, “Mushtaq Ghani is a formidable contender for the position of speaker in the provincial assembly. The names of Ali Amin Gandapur and Atif Khan are also being considered as strong candidates for the Chief Minister of KP.”

Under the condition of anonymity, the source mentioned, “Form 49, issued by the Election Commission, is expected within a day or two. There are discussions indicating that independent candidates must align with a political party within three days after receiving Form 49.”
He further explained, “Failure to join a party within three days would categorize the independent candidate as an independent MPA for the next five years.”
Addressing the potential formation of a government by independent candidates, the source noted, “If they choose to establish their government, independent candidates will forfeit 30 reserved seats, including 26 for women and four for minorities. To be eligible for these seats, an independent candidate must align with a political party.”
