Islamabad:The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday sought records of two contempt petitions regarding PTI founder Imran Khan’s meetings with his family members and friends in jail.

Justice Inaam Ameen Minhas, while hearing the contempt petition, directed the petitioner to attach the court’s order dated January 28 with the case. The petitioner has named the Secretary Interior and Adiala Jail Superintendent as respondents.

Advocate Faisal Chaudhry, representing the petitioner, argued that the registrar’s office was not authorized to decide a case’s maintainability, stating that only the court could make such a determination. He added that the contempt petitions were filed due to the alleged violation of court orders preventing Imran Khan from meeting his friends in jail.

The lawyer emphasized that this petition was unrelated to another case pending before the court of Acting Chief Justice. He further pointed out that the Adiala Jail Superintendent had assured Justice Sardar Ijaz Ishaq Khan’s court that meetings with the PTI founder would be arranged as per jail rules. However, despite this assurance, Khan was still being denied meetings with his friends.

The court sought records of the two contempt petitions and adjourned the hearing.

Meanwhile, the IHC also served notices to respondents in petitions filed by Chairman PAC Junaid Akbar, Rauf Hassan, Sher Ali Arbab, and Dr. Amjad, who sought permission to meet Imran Khan in jail.

Justice Khadim Hussain Soomro heard the petitions, which were filed through lawyer Ayesha Khalid. The lawyer argued that while lists of visitors were regularly submitted to the jail administration, the authorities were not facilitating meetings with the PTI founder.
