Islamabad: The Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) police has finalized a comprehensive security plan for the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit 2024.
Inspector General (IG) Police Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi stated on Sunday that security duties have been organized at various venues, airports, routes, funnel areas, hotels, and residences of delegations, including the Noor Khan Air Base. The police have developed an integrated security strategy to ensure the safety of all participants.
He highlighted that search and information-based operations are ongoing to ensure full security for foreign heads of state, delegations, and guests. The ICT police have also devised a traffic plan to minimize disruptions for citizens during the event.
The security efforts involve collaboration with multiple agencies, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, District Administration, Pakistan Army, Rangers, Frontier Corps, provincial police, intelligence agencies, traffic police, and the special branch.
To emphasize the magnitude of the security operation, IG Rizvi revealed that 93 percent of the Islamabad Police force, comprising over 9,500 officers and personnel, has been deployed. “The presence of these security forces aims to assure our guests that Islamabad is a safe and protected city,” he stated.
The IG also called for public cooperation to ensure the success of the summit, which is regarded as a matter of national pride. “We are working diligently to present a successful summit, and with the help of all stakeholders, we will achieve this goal,” he expressed confidently.
