Ice Giants Premiere at UNESCO Sparks Climate Change Dialogue

Islamabad: An event showcasing the premiere screening of the film “Ice Giants: Discovering the Karakorum” took place at the UNESCO Headquarters in Paris on Wednesday. 

Co-hosted by Pakistan’s Ambassador to France, Asim Iftikhar Ahmed, and renowned environmentalist and filmmaker Luc Hardy, the event aimed to highlight the challenges of climate change and glacial melting.

Following the screening, a panel discussion was held, featuring esteemed experts such as paleoclimatologist Valerie Masson-Delmotte, glaciologists Patrick Wagnon and Fanny Brun, and Luc Hardy, with François Carrel moderating the discussion.

The event attracted a full house of diplomats, researchers, academics, think tanks, environmentalists, media, and the general public, all captivated by the documentary and the expert insights shared during the discussion.

This gathering raised significant awareness about the global climate crisis, its effects on populations and ecosystems, and the urgent need for collective action to tackle these challenges.

Additionally, it highlighted Pakistan’s majestic mountains, over 7,000 glaciers, the region’s stunning beauty, and Pakistan’s prominent role in global climate discourse.
