Husband arrested for killing wife in Faisalabad

Faisalabad: Police in Mamonkanjan have arrested a man on charges of killing his wife and attempting to pass it off as a natural death.

According to a police spokesman, the accused, Shabbir, a resident of Chak No. 550-GB, allegedly murdered his wife, Safia Bibi, following a domestic dispute. He initially claimed that she died naturally in her sleep.

However, during the investigation, police discovered that Safia Bibi had been strongly opposing Shabbir’s secretly solemnised second marriage, which reportedly led to the fatal incident.

The accused has been taken into custody, while further investigation is under way, the spokesman added.

Couple die after consuming suspected toxic food

 A married couple died after allegedly consuming toxic food in the limits of Ghulam Muhammad Abad police station on Monday.

Police said Muhammad Rehman, a resident of Marzi Pura, had married Nitasha around five months ago. The couple reportedly ate food from a local hotel earlier in the day and fell critically ill upon returning home.

They were rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors made strenuous efforts to save their lives but failed. Both victims died during treatment.

Police shifted the bodies to a mortuary for postmortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death. Further investigation is in progress.

Man sets himself on fire due to mental stress in Multan

A 34-year-old man sustained critical burn injuries after allegedly setting himself on fire due to mental stress in the Pul Noh Bahar area on Vehari Road on Tuesday.

According to Rescue 1122 officials, the victim, identified as Wajid Riaz, reportedly poured petrol on himself and set himself ablaze. Rescue teams, including ambulances and fire vehicles, rushed to the scene and shifted him to Nishtar Hospital.

Rescue sources said the victim sustained around 80 per cent burn injuries and remains in critical condition in the emergency ward.

Family members told authorities that Wajid Riaz had been under severe mental stress due to personal and family-related issues.
