Huawei Unveils Open-Source Tech to Boost AI Efficiency

Beijing: Chinese tech giant Huawei, in collaboration with leading universities, has unveiled and open-sourced a new artificial intelligence technology aimed at significantly improving computing resource utilization.

The framework, known as Flex:ai, enables the partitioning of a single AI chip into multiple virtual units, with granularity as precise as 10 percent. This allows a single chip to perform multiple tasks simultaneously through flexible resource isolation, increasing average compute utilization by up to 30 percent, according to CGTN.

The launch comes as the rapid growth of the global AI industry fuels an unprecedented demand for computing power. However, low utilization rates and inefficient resource management have emerged as major obstacles, contributing to substantial wastage and slowing technological progress.

By open-sourcing Flex:ai, Huawei is offering global developers access to its core technologies. Huawei Vice President Zhou Yuefeng, who introduced the framework at a forum in Shanghai, said the move aims to accelerate innovation and collaboration across the AI ecosystem.
