Islamabad: The government of Pakistan has announced two official holidays for Eid-ul-Fitr this year. According to a notification issued by the Cabinet Division and approved by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday, Friday, March 20, and Saturday, March 21 will be observed as public holidays.

The notification states that the holidays will apply to all offices working five or six days a week. In addition, government employees already have Sunday off, making Monday, March 23, an official holiday as well, resulting in a four-day break for federal offices.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) said on March 11 that the chances of sighting the Shawwal moon on March 19 are low, as the moon’s age at sunset will be approximately 12 hours and 41 minutes.

Eid-ul-Fitr is therefore expected to fall on March 21, though the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will make the final announcement after the moon sighting.

This holiday schedule allows citizens to celebrate Eid with extended time off, while government offices remain closed for four consecutive days.
