Hot, Dry Weather Likely to Persist Most Parts of Country

Islamabad: Hot and dry weather is likely to persist across most parts of the country, with particularly severe heat anticipated in central and southern regions.
During the evening, partial cloud cover is expected in upper Punjab, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, and Kashmir, with the potential for dust storms, thunderstorms, and rainfall in some areas.
On Wednesday, the country witnessed its highest temperature in Dadu at 49 degrees Celsius, followed by Jacobabad at 47, Sukkur, Mohenjo Daro, Padidan, Nawabshah, Larkana, and DG Khan at 46 degrees.
Temperatures reached around 42 degrees in Lahore, Faisalabad, and Sargodha, 44 in Multan, 40 in Karachi and Bannu, 39 in Islamabad and Muzaffarabad, and 38 in Peshawar, while Gilgit and Quetta recorded the highest temperatures at 34 degrees Celsius.
NDMA Warnings
On the other hand, the NDMA has issued warnings regarding the possibility of three heatwaves in various cities across the country over the next 25 days.
According to the NDMA report, the first heatwave threat is in Sindh, particularly in Umerkot, Tharparkar, Tando Allahyar, Matiari, and Sanghar, as well as in Bahawalpur and Rahim Yar Khan in Punjab. Temperatures in these areas could rise up to 40 degrees Celsius from May 15 to 30, with the potential for even more intense heat. This initial heatwave spell may last for 2 to 3 days.
There is concern about a second heatwave towards the end of May or the beginning of June, where temperatures could reach up to 45 degrees Celsius, lasting for 4 to 5 days.
According to the report, the third heatwave threat is anticipated during the first ten days of June, affecting Tharparkar, Umerkot, Sanghar, Badin, and Khairpur.
