Islamabad: Federal Minister for National Heritage and Culture Aurangzeb Khan Khichi on Tuesday declared Government Graduate College Asghar Mall, one of Rawalpindi’s oldest educational institutions, a National Heritage institution of Pakistan, highlighting its historical, cultural, and educational significance.

Addressing a ceremony at the college, the minister said a formal notification would be issued soon, followed by an official event to confer the heritage status.

He described the institution as more than an academic facility, calling it a living symbol of knowledge, character-building, and Pakistan’s historical and cultural legacy.

Emphasizing the role of education in nation-building, he recalled Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s message to students at the time of independence, urging them to place education at the heart of national progress.

Calling students the country’s greatest asset, Khichi encouraged them to act as ambassadors of Pakistan when traveling abroad and to project a positive image of the country.

Referring to recent national developments, the minister said Pakistan’s global standing had improved following the bravery of its armed forces and the success of Marka-e-Haq, adding that the country was being viewed with renewed respect internationally.

The minister invited the college administration to enter into cooperation agreements with institutions working under the Ministry of National Heritage and Culture.

He assured full support, stating that all attached departments were ready to collaborate and that the college could use the ministry’s platforms free of cost to promote educational, cultural, and heritage-related activities.

Paying tribute to the faculty, Khichi said teachers were shaping the future of the nation and appreciated the college administration for preserving the institution’s heritage and traditions. He urged students to move forward with knowledge, ethics, and a strong sense of responsibility to serve the country.

Speaking on the occasion, Principal Government Graduate College Asghar Mall Professor Dr. Tanveer Ahmed Khan Khichi said archaeology classes had been launched at the college, describing it as a pioneering initiative at the college level. He stressed the need for support from the Directorate of Archaeology and Museums, to which the federal minister assured full cooperation.

The Director General of the Directorate of Archaeology and Museums (DOAM), faculty members, and students were also present at the ceremony.
