HEC Bars KP Varsities From Granting New Affiliations

News Desk

Peshawar: The Higher Education Department (HED) Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa has forbidden the public sector universities in the province from awarding new or fresh affiliations to any new institution, college or programme until the Higher Education Commission (HEC) has finalised a new policy.

According to a letter issued to the public sector universities, the HED stated that the primary cause is that the universities have granted affiliation to colleges without having proper qualified teaching faculty who met necessary academic and physical requirements, in violation of HEC policy.

It said that some universities in KP are violating the jurisdiction policy and some colleges that were affiliated with those institutions were offering BS curricula even though those programmes weren’t available on the main campus.

It advised that such programmes should be shifted to nearby universities by getting NOC, adding that the degrees awarded in such cases would not be attested by HEC.
