Heavy Rains Expected Across Pakistan Regions from Sept 2

Islamabad:The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast rain-wind/thundershowers across the upper parts of the country from September 2-3. A moist current from the Bay of Bengal is likely to penetrate the upper regions starting September 2, while a westerly wave is expected to approach the western parts of the country on the same day.

Expected Weather Conditions

September 2-3:

  • Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat, Attock, Chakwal, Tala Gang, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Narowal, Hafizabad, Wazirabad, Sahiwal, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Nankana Sahib, Khushab, Sargodha, Mianwali, Chiniot, Faisalabad, Okara, Pakpattan, Kasur, Bhakkar:
    • Rain-wind/thundershowers with isolated heavy falls.

September 3-4:

  • Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Khanpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, Layyah, Rajanpur, Rahimyar Khan:
    • Rain-wind/thundershowers with occasional gaps.

Sindh (September 3-4):

  • Sukkur, Larkana, Khairpur, Dadu, Jacobabad, Karachi, Hyderabad, Thatta, Badin, Tando Allahyar, Tando Muhammad Khan, Tharparkar, Mithi, Mirpur Khas, Umarkot, Sanghar:
    • Rain-wind/thundershowers with occasional gaps.

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (September 2-3):

  • Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Buner, Malakand, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Peshawar, Swabi, Nowshera, Mardan, Charsadda, Kurram, Orakzai, Kohat, Hangu, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Waziristan, Dera Ismail Khan:
    • Rain-wind/thundershowers with isolated heavy falls.

Kashmir (September 2-3):

  • Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, Mirpur:

Gilgit-Baltistan (September 2-3):

  • Diamer, Astore, Skardu, Gilgit, Hunza, Ghanche, Shigar:

Balochistan (September 2-4):

  • Quetta, Zhob, Sibi, Harnai, Ziarat, Kohlu, Barkhan, Loralai, Sherani, Qila Abdullah, Qila Saifullah, Khuzdar, Kalat, Naseerabad, Awaran, Lasbella:
    • Rain-wind/thundershowers with occasional gaps.

Potential Impacts and Advisories

  • Increased Flow in Local Nullahs and Streams:
    • Expected in Murree, Galliyat, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Kohistan, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Nowshera, Swabi, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, and Northeast Punjab on the night of September 2 and September 3.
  • Urban Flooding:
    • Possible in low-lying areas of Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Sialkot, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Nowshera, and Peshawar on the night of September 2 and September 3.
  • Landslides:
    • Likely to disrupt roads in vulnerable areas of upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galliyat, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan during the wet spell.
    • Moderate rains may generate landslides at vulnerable points and increase flows in local nullahs/streams of Kalat, Khuzdar, and Barkhan on September 3-4.
  • Damage to Weak Structures:
    • Heavy downpour, windstorms, and lightning may damage weak structures such as roofs/walls of Kacha houses, electric poles, billboards, vehicles, and solar panels, and cause road disruptions during the forecast period.

Farmers, travelers, tourists, and relevant authorities are advised to take necessary precautions, manage their activities and travel plans according to weather conditions, and stay alert to avoid any untoward situations during the wet spell.
