Islamabad: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast a spell of heavy rainfall from July 5 to July 10 across several northern and eastern regions of Punjab, warning of possible urban flooding, flash floods, and cloudbursts in popular tourist areas.
Deputy Director Anjum Nazir Zaigham, speaking to a local news channel, said the upcoming weather system could significantly impact areas including Sialkot, Faisalabad, Murree, Galyat, Naran, Kaghan, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan.
These locations, frequented by tourists during the summer season, may experience sudden downpours, unstable weather, and dangerous travel conditions.
Tourists have been strongly advised to postpone travel plans to flood-prone or mountainous areas during this period, stay informed through official weather updates, and follow the guidance of local emergency services.
Zaigham emphasized that local administrations should ensure emergency response teams are on alert, drainage systems are cleared in vulnerable zones, and continuous public awareness efforts are in place.
Regarding weather conditions in Sindh, including Karachi, the deputy director said skies will remain cloudy on July 4, but typical weather patterns are expected to return from July 5 onward. While light to moderate rain or drizzle may occur in parts of Sindh, no significant weather disruptions are currently anticipated.
In southern Punjab, cities such as Multan, Khanewal, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Rahim Yar Khan, and Dera Ghazi Khan are likely to receive light to moderate rainfall, whereas northern and central Punjab may witness widespread moderate to heavy rain.
Authorities have reiterated the need for vigilance, urging the public to avoid unnecessary travel to vulnerable areas and to follow safety advisories during the rainfall period.
