Heavy Rainfall Lashes Mirpur Division
News Desk
Mirpur: In the final leg of the monsoon, certain parts of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), including the lakeside Mirpur district, experienced the heaviest spell of torrential rain, strong winds and thunder late Friday. While this provided relief from the oppressive heat, it also brought misery as the power supply to some areas of Mirpur city and other parts of the division was cut off.
People in the entire Mirpur region breathed a sigh of relief from the summer days as the area received probably its final burst of heavy rain in the early hours of Wednesday. This led to a significant improvement in the prevailing weather conditions and a further decrease in the temperature.
About a week ago, sudden clouds again started hovering late Friday and strong winds began to sweep the major parts of the region like the previous days.
The strong winds resulted in the snapping of power supply to some parts of Mirpur division comprising Mirpur, Bhimbher and Kotli districts, especially in Mirpur city. These were followed by rainfall which provided relief to the people from the sweltering heat and caused great inconvenience.
According to reports from different parts of the division, already hit by the frequent unscheduled power outages, the power supply got badly affected due to winds with uprooting of trees and poles of local supply lines getting partially affected, mostly due to the felling of the trees and their branches.
Early this morning, there was heavy rain in the city and the rest of the district and it continued periodically for several hours till Saturday morning.
