Islamabad: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast heavy rain, strong winds, and thunderstorms in the upper parts of the country from March 9 to March 12 due to the influence of a westerly weather system approaching from the west.
According to the Met Office, the system is expected to trigger widespread unsettled weather conditions across several regions, particularly in northern Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
Districts including Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Battagram, Buner, Malakand, Mansehra, Abbottabad, and Haripur, along with Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir, are likely to experience partly cloudy to overcast conditions accompanied by moderate to heavy rain, gusty winds, and thunderstorms at times.
The spell is expected to begin Monday evening and continue until March 12.
Meanwhile, light rain and thunderstorms are also predicted in other parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on March 10 and 11, including Khyber, Mohmand, Peshawar, Swabi, Mardan, Charsadda, Nowshera, Bajaur, Bannu, Waziristan, Orakzai, Kurram, Kohat, Hangu, and Mianwali.

Rain and thunderstorm activity is also expected in Islamabad, the Pothohar region, Murree, Galliyat, and adjoining areas from the night of March 9 through March 11, with chances of isolated hailstorms.
The Met Office warned that daytime temperatures across upper Pakistan may drop by 3 to 4 degrees Celsius during the forecast period.
Authorities have also cautioned about the possibility of landslides in vulnerable mountainous areas of upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir. Tourists planning visits to northern areas have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel and remain vigilant.
Farmers in the affected regions have been urged to take precautionary measures to protect their crops.
The PMD further noted that winds blowing from Iran may carry pollutants into Pakistan, potentially affecting air quality in western parts of the country.
Authorities and the public have been advised to stay updated with weather forecasts and take necessary safety precautions.
