Heavy Rain, Possible Urban Flooding in Punjab, KP

Islamabad: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted a rain-wind spell for the upper and central parts of the country from September 26 to October 1, 2024.
According to the PMD, moist currents from the Bay of Bengal are expected to enter the upper regions by September 25, followed by a westerly wave on September 26.
As a result, rain-wind/thundershowers with isolated heavy falls are anticipated in areas such as Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Peshawar, and other districts of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, from the evening of September 26 to October 1.
Southern areas like Hangu, Bannu, Waziristan, and DI Khan will experience rain from September 27 to October 1.
In Punjab and Islamabad, rain with isolated heavyfalls is expected in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Sialkot, and surrounding areas from September 26 to October 1, while central districts like Faisalabad and Sargodha will see rains from September 27.
Similar conditions are forecast for Kashmir, including Neelum Valley and Muzaffarabad, from September 26 to October 2, while Gilgit-Baltistan will experience wet weather over the same period.
Balochistan and Sindh will mostly remain hot and dry, although rain is expected in Mirpurkhas, Tharparkar, and Umerkot between September 26-28.
The PMD warned that heavy rains might increase water flow in streams and nullahs in Murree, Mansehra, and other areas, potentially causing urban flooding in low-lying parts of Islamabad,
Rawalpindi, Lahore, and Sialkot. Landslides are also a risk in vulnerable areas of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan, while windstorms and lightning may damage weak structures. Travelers, farmers, and authorities have been advised to stay alert and take precautions.
