Rawalpindi: The ongoing anti-encroachment operation in Rawalpindi Cantonment areas continued with the use of heavy machinery to demolish illegal concrete structures.

The Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB) encroachment cell carried out a large-scale operation in Tench Bhatta Bazaar on Tuesday, dismantling numerous sheds and concrete ramps.

The enforcement team, led by Additional CEO Arshad Khan and Deputy CEO Nasir Kamal, started from Octroi No. 22, where several encroachments had already been removed. Shopkeepers were warned against reinstalling illegal structures.

Tench Bhatta, the largest and most densely populated market in the cantonment area, has long faced congestion issues. Residents and commuters have been urging the RCB to take strict action to keep the roads clear for traffic and pedestrians.

The board had earlier issued notices to shopkeepers to remove encroachments voluntarily. The latest operation has significantly widened the road, easing movement. However, residents have called for a permanent enforcement presence and better traffic management to prevent congestion, particularly from street vendors.
