Heavy Hailstorm Hits Mirpur-AJK

Mirpur: The lakeside city of Mirpur in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) experienced a heavy hailstorm on Saturday night, bringing a sudden drop in temperature as winter bids farewell.

The hailstorm, followed by a downpour, lasted for about half an hour with brief pauses. Rain continued intermittently, according to a local correspondent from APP.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department had predicted intermittent spells of light to moderate rain and snowfall across both sides of the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir, including AJK and Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), on March 15.

Weather conditions are expected to improve from the afternoon of March 16.

As per the latest forecast, light rain or snowfall (in higher reaches) is expected at a few places on the morning of March 16, with conditions improving by the afternoon. Generally dry weather is anticipated from March 17 to 25, although cloudy conditions are likely on the evening of March 19.

In view of the prevailing weather, authorities have issued advisories for travelers, tourists, and transporters, urging them to follow administrative and traffic guidelines.

Farmers have been advised to suspend agricultural activities until March 16. Additionally, residents have been cautioned to avoid steep and avalanche-prone areas due to potential risks.

The meteorological department has also warned of possible landslides, mudslides, and falling rocks at vulnerable locations, particularly along hilly and mountainous routes.
