Heatwave Alert: 9 Punjab, 13 Sindh, 4 Balochistan Districts Affected

Islamabad: Special Assistant to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on #, Romina Khurshid Alam, has stated that there will be three heatwave spells in May and June.

During a press conference in Islamabad, Romina Khurshid Alam highlighted that Pakistan is experiencing the effects of climate change, and the heatwave phase has already begun.

She mentioned that nine districts in Punjab, 13 in Sindh, and four in Balochistan are currently affected by the heatwave.

Romina Khurshid Alam emphasized that the public is being informed through various means on how to protect themselves from the heatwave.

She further stated that the rapidly changing weather has significant negative impacts on crops and the melting of glaciers.

According to Romina, the intense heatwave increases the risk of forest fires, advising against smoking near forests.

She also noted that there was a recent incident of forest fire, which was promptly extinguished by firefighters, highlighting the need for extra caution during these times.

At this occasion, a representative from the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) explained that January and February saw low rainfall and below-average snowfall, while several countries experienced above-normal rainfall in April.

The NDMA representative added that they had already developed heatwave guidelines in March, and from May 22 to 30, Sindh, Punjab, and Balochistan are expected to be affected by the heatwave.
