Islamabad: The Ministry of National Health Services (NHS) is all set to organise the ‘All Pakistan Women Convention on Family Planning and Population Management’ to empower women and mothers by raising their awareness and knowledge.

The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Representative in Islamabad, Dr Luay Shabaneh, called on Health Caretaker Minister Dr Nadeem Jan on Thursday and discussed health sector-related issues.

The minister informed that the Health Ministry is organising a convention to empower females, particularly rural women, on population issues and family planning based on the Islamic concept ‘Tawazun’ which calls for balancing between the resources and the population.

It will take place at the Convention Centre on October 16th, and the audience will include 500 women of reproductive health age from rural and peri-urban areas, Dr Jan added.

Dr Nadeem said that scholars and national and international experts will participate to highlight the Islamic point of view on family planning.

The interim minister further said that the government is working under an integrated strategy to control the growing population, and the Population Task Force is following a comprehensive strategy in this regard.

Dr Luay assured full support in this regard from UNFPA.
