Health Expert Calls For Educating Housewives To Ensure Healthy Generations
News Desk
Faisalabad: Health expert advocates that housewives should be educated on how to provide the appropriate amount of calories to their family members according to their specific nutritional needs to foster a healthy generation.
Alarming statistics revealed that 49 per cent of women in Pakistan are anaemic, and 42 per cent of children suffer from stunted growth, which can be addressed through a nutrient-balanced diet, stated Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCI) Senior Vice President Dr Sajjad Arshad.
Vice President further pointed out that many educated housewives are unaware of the specific nutritional needs of their family members, leading to the preparation of a single dish for everyone despite the varying needs of children and the elderly. This contributes to various health problems in both age groups.
Dr Sajjad stressed the need for immediate reforms and awareness in this area to ensure a healthy generation. He urged nutritionists and dieticians to take a proactive role in promoting awareness of balanced diets among the public.
Speaking to a delegation from Government College University Faisalabad (GCUF), Dr Sajjad emphasised that developing countries with limited financial resources should focus on promoting disease prevention through nutrition rather than incurring heavy expenses on treatment.
Health Expert further highlighted the importance of the poultry sector in providing affordable protein, which is necessary for maintaining health and growth. He announced that the International Poultry Expo would be held in Lahore from September 26–28, and encouraged nutritionists and dieticians to participate to strengthen collaboration between the food and health sectors.
