Harshit Fires Up IND vs SA ODI With Fiery Send-Off to Dewald

News Desk

Islamabad: Indian pacer Harshit Rana, making headlines with a spirited performance in the first ODI against South Africa on November 30, delivered a fiery send-off to young batter Dewald Brevis after dismissing him in the 22nd over at Ranchi.

Rana, who emerged as India’s standout bowler at the time of the incident with a three-wicket haul, was brimming with emotion as he broke through Brevis’s aggressive resistance.

Rana’s Finger-Point Gesture Sparks Buzz

On the fifth ball of the 22nd over, Rana sent down a 138.2 kph delivery pitched full outside off. Brevis attempted to loft it over extra cover, but Ruturaj Gaikwad, stationed at deep cover, completed a safe catch.

As Brevis turned for the long walk back, Rana charged toward him, pointing him toward the pavilion in a fiery gesture. The South African youngster, also a CSK fan-favourite, chose not to react and walked off visibly frustrated.

A Familiar ‘Send-Off’ Persona

Rana’s aggressive celebrations have drawn attention before. During IPL 2024, he faced scrutiny for animated send-offs to Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Mayank Agarwal and Delhi Capitals’ Abhishek Porel.

However, his gesture on Friday appeared milder in comparison and is unlikely to draw sanction from the ICC.

While Rana’s passion and intensity have now become central talking points as he looks to cement his spot in India’s ODI setup, South Africa mounted a strong resistance. After slipping to 4/— inside 15 overs, Matthew Breetzke and Marco Jansen rebuilt the innings impressively, adding 177 runs by the 26th over in pursuit of India’s target of 350.
