Islamabad: The National Disaster Management Authority’s (NDMA) National Emergencies Operations Center (NEOC) issued a forecast on Thursday predicting heavy rainfall, strong windstorms, thunderstorms, and isolated hailstorms for various parts of the country, including Rawalpindi and Islamabad, on Friday and Saturday evenings.

According to the weather advisory, severe weather conditions are expected from the evening of April 18 through April 19, 2025, in the Pothohar region, including Islamabad and Rawalpindi, Upper Punjab (Attock, Chakwal, Gujrat, and Jhelum), and Central Punjab (Faisalabad, Hafizabad, Jhang, Khushab, Mianwali, Lahore, Narowal, Sahiwal, Sargodha, and Sheikhupura). These weather conditions could disrupt infrastructure, transportation, and agricultural activities.

The advisory warns that strong winds and heavy rainfall may uproot trees, potentially causing temporary power outages. Windstorms, dust storms, and hailstorms could damage vulnerable structures, rooftops, vehicles, and power lines. Hailstorms are also expected to threaten crops and outdoor installations, particularly those with glass surfaces. Reduced visibility due to rain and dust could increase the risk of road accidents.

Residents are urged to take necessary precautions, such as securing loose objects and avoiding unnecessary travel during severe weather. The NDMA has recommended that the public stay informed by downloading the official Pak NDMA Disaster Alert mobile application for real-time updates.

The NDMA advises all citizens, particularly tourists and those in affected areas, to closely monitor weather developments through official channels. Travelers are strongly urged to verify road conditions before departure and to postpone non-essential journeys during periods of intense weather.

Those in landslide-prone areas should exercise heightened vigilance and follow all local safety directives. Timely access to verified information and adherence to official warnings are critical for personal safety and community protection during severe weather events.
