Haidar Sultan Clinches Gold for Pakistan at BRICS Weightlifting

Islamabad: Haidar Sultan of Pakistan secured the first gold medal in weightlifting at the BRICS Games held in Kazan, Russia.
Sultan triumphed over the Russian competitors in a challenging contest, earning the first gold for Pakistan in these Games, according to a press release.
Competing in the 61kg weight category, Sultan lifted a total of 261kg—115kg in the snatch and 146kg in the clean and jerk.
This victory marked his best performance in any national or international competition to date. Despite trailing behind the Russian lifters in the snatch event, Sultan’s final lift of 146kg in the clean and jerk secured his maiden international victory at the BRICS Games.
Sultan was guided by his experienced coach, Shuja Ud Din Malik, a Commonwealth Games 2006 gold medalist and record holder.
The motivation from Imdaullah Meman, the chef-de-mission, and Malik’s technical expertise maintained Sultan’s competitive spirit.
Delighted with his victory, Sultan expressed his gratitude to the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) for their financial and administrative support.
Hailing from the Gujranwala district of Punjab, Sultan represents the Pakistan Army at the national level.
