Guterres’ Eid Message: ‘Heavy Heart’ as Wars Disrupt Muslim Festivities

United Nation: UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has extended Eid-ul-Fitr greetings with a “heavy heart,” acknowledging that millions of Muslims around the world are unable to celebrate with their families due to war, conflict, and displacement.
“I want to express my best wishes for Eid-ul-Fitr to all Muslims around the world,” Guterres said in a video statement shared on X (formerly Twitter).
“But I do so with a heavy heart, thinking about the many Muslims who won’t be able to celebrate Eid with their families due to war, conflict, or displacement,” he added.
Emphasizing the festival’s core values of solidarity and compassion, the UN chief expressed hope that these principles would help bridge divides and bring relief to affected communities.
His message comes at a time when Palestinians in Gaza, Kashmiris under Indian occupation, Rohingya refugees, the people of Sudan, and other conflict-affected Muslim populations face somber Eid celebrations amid ongoing violence and humanitarian crises.
Eid-ul-Fitr, which marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan, is traditionally celebrated with prayers, feasts, and acts of charity.
However, for many Muslims caught in conflict zones, this year’s festivities remain overshadowed by hardship and uncertainty.
