Gur Mela Kicks Off at UAF

Faisalabad: The University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) has inaugurated the Gur Mela, an event that has captivated local residents with its vibrant display of rural folk culture and traditional cuisine. The festival, organized by the Directorate of Farms, is set to run until October 08, 2024.

Inaugurated by UAF Vice Chancellor Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan, the Gur Mela features students dressed in traditional attire who have set up stalls offering a variety of rural delicacies, including sweets, Saag, Makai Di Roti, and Lassi.

Food enthusiasts flocked to the university to savor these culinary delights and immerse themselves in the festive atmosphere.

During the opening ceremony, Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan emphasized the importance of preserving rich cultural heritage, stating, “Nations that ignore their rich culture disappear from the map of the world.”

He urged collective efforts to promote traditional values and connect the younger generation with their cultural roots.

Dr. Khan also highlighted the significance of the Kissan Mela in strengthening the relationship between farmers and agricultural scientists, which is vital for enhancing agricultural productivity.

The ongoing UAF Kissan Mela, scheduled to continue until October 09, includes a range of activities such as Kissan Convention, Agricultural Exhibition, Cultural Games, and Livestock competitions to foster a spirit of healthy competition.

Director of Farms Dr Shahid Ibne Zameer noted that organizing such festivals is a longstanding tradition at UAF, aimed at showcasing village life and promoting cultural awareness.

The event was also attended by notable guests, including Vice Chancellor of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore, Dr Muhammad Younis, Sarwat Malik, and Dr Nadeem Akbar.
