Faisalabad: The ‘Gur Mela and Cultural Festival,’ spanning three days, kicked off at the Agriculture Heritage Museum, organized by the Directorate of Farms at the University of Agriculture Faisalabad.
The features of the festival include stalls showcasing various types of Gur (jaggery), such as plain Gur, mixed nuts Gur, and special desi ghee-infused Gur. Other attractions include ‘Meethi Lassi,’ Gur-infused tea, ‘Gol Gappay,’ green tea, sugarcane juice (‘Ganne Ka Rus’), traditional dishes like ‘Saag’ and ‘Makai Ki Roti,’ as well as activities like horse riding, camel riding, and tonga riding.
Additionally, cultural stalls and a painting show contribute to the festival’s vibrancy.
Dr Muhammad Shahid Ibne Zamir, the Director of Farms, emphasized that the festival was curated with schoolchildren in mind, aiming to provide them with recreational opportunities and introduce them to traditional cultural foods. Numerous students from various schools, including Laboratory Boys and Girls Schools, Divisional Public School, City School, and Roots, attended the festival, enjoying activities like watching the ‘Belna,’ ‘Kharas,’ ‘Kohly,’ and witnessing the Gur-making process.
Despite the intense cold, people from diverse backgrounds gathered at the university to partake in the colors of the ‘Gur Mela and Cultural Festival.’ The event is scheduled to continue until January 19.
