GTA 5 RP Servers Face Bans Over Asset Theft
News Desk
Islamabad: The team behind FiveM, the hugely popular GTA 5 roleplay (RP) modification now owned by Rockstar Games, has confirmed a major security breach that allowed “bad actors” to steal encrypted modders’ assets.
In response, developer Cfx.re has announced strict enforcement measures, including two-week suspensions for servers caught using stolen content — and permanent shutdowns for repeat offenders.
In a statement, Cfx.re acknowledged that a flaw in its asset escrow system had been exploited, enabling unauthorized extraction and use of protected content.
These tools are designed to ensure that modders’ creations run only on approved servers, safeguarding the work of creators in a community where unique assets are often vital to server identity.

“Recently, we identified a security issue in our asset escrow system that allowed bad actors to extract encrypted assets from the game client and bypass safeguards,” the statement read. “We take the security of our platform extremely seriously and are working to resolve this issue as quickly as possible.
A big thank you to all FiveM community members who alerted us — we are grateful for your vigilance and support.”
Cfx.re said it is actively investigating reports of stolen content. Any server found guilty of using leaked assets without the creator’s permission will face a two-week suspension. Those caught again will have their servers permanently terminated.
The company also reminded users that only Tebex-accredited creators are authorized resellers of FiveM and RedM assets, urging server owners to verify seller credentials before making purchases.
The crackdown comes amid growing concerns over asset theft in the GTA RP scene, where competition between servers can be fierce. While resource sharing is common, many popular servers invest heavily in creating custom models, scripts, and maps that they want to keep exclusive.
Originally independent, Cfx.re joined Rockstar Games in 2023 after years of tension between modding communities and the game’s publisher. FiveM remains a cornerstone of GTA 5’s online popularity, especially on PC, and has helped sustain player engagement more than a decade after the game’s release.
Industry speculation suggests Rockstar may integrate Cfx.re’s expertise into official modding and roleplay tools for GTA 6, though no plans have been confirmed.
With the next entry in the series not expected to release on PC immediately after its May 2025 launch, details of any such features may not emerge for some time.
