Dhaka: The government has approved an extension of the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr holidays, increasing the total number of days off to seven this year.

The decision was taken during a cabinet meeting held at the Bangladesh Secretariat and chaired by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. Officials agreed to declare March 18 as an additional public holiday, effectively extending the Eid break.

Following the meeting, State Minister for Education and Primary Education Bobby Hajjaj briefed reporters on the cabinet’s decision regarding the extended holiday schedule.

Authorities said the move aims to provide citizens with more time to celebrate the festival with family and travel during the festive period.

According to preliminary estimates based on lunar calculations, Eid-ul-Fitr is expected to fall on either March 20 or March 21 this year, depending on the sighting of the moon.
