Islamabad:  As the countdown to the Winter Olympics 2026 begins, Google has unveiled an interactive Doodle that combines winter sports, Italian culture, and the scenic landscapes of the Northern Italian host regions to give users a fun and educational glimpse of the global event.

Titled “The Spirit of the Slopes,” the Doodle showcases animated snowy landscapes, winter sports athletes, and regional Italian elements such as local plants and historical equipment designs from past Italian-hosted games.

Beyond the visuals, the Doodle includes a playable mini-game, allowing users to ski or snowboard through alpine gates in a low-poly virtual environment. As players advance, they unlock information about Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo, the two main host cities, providing an interactive way to learn about the culture and geography of the region.

The 2026 Winter Olympics are scheduled to take place from February 6 to 22, spanning multiple Northern Italian locations, including Milan, Cortina d’Ampezzo, Valtellina, Val di Fiemme, and Anterselva. The games will feature a variety of sports, including curling, which has already begun with its mixed doubles preliminary rounds in Cortina.

Often called “chess on ice,” curling is a strategic winter sport in which teams slide polished granite stones toward a circular target known as the house, while teammates sweep the ice to control the stone’s speed and direction.

Originating in 16th-century Scotland, curling first appeared at the 1924 Chamonix Games and became a permanent Olympic event in 1998.

The Google Doodle not only celebrates the sporting spirit of the Winter Olympics but also offers a unique opportunity for users worldwide to explore Italian culture and the excitement of the games in an interactive format.
