Get Your Coats Ready: PMD Predicts Rain & Snow From Oct 14-17

Islamabad: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) predicts rain-wind and thunderstorms for various parts of the country with occasional gaps from October 14-17, indicating signs of the formal arrival of the winter season.

A westerly system will enter the upper parts of the country on October 13 (evening or night) and likely spread to the upper and central parts on October 14 (night).

In Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP), rain-wind/thunderstorm (moderate to isolated heavy falls) is expected from October 13 (evening/night) to 17 with occasional gapsin Chitral, Dir, Swat, Malakand, Shangla, Buner, Mansehra, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Swabi, Khyber, Mohmand, Bajaur, Peshawar, Mardan,Nowshera, Charsadda, Kurram, Kohat, Hangu, Orakzai, Bannu, Karak, Lakki Marwat, Tank, Waziristan, and Dera Ismail Khan.

The Met projects snowfall over the high mountains and isolated hailstorms in the plains of KP during the forecast period.

Rain-wind and thunderstorm (moderate to isolated heavy falls) is expected from 13 (night) to 17in Kashmir (Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, Mirpur) and GB (Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche, Shigar).

Snowfall over the high mountains is expected in Kashmir and GB during the forecast period.

In Punjab and Islamabad, rain-wind/thunderstorm (moderate to isolated heavy falls) with isolated hailstorm is expected from13 (night) to17 in Islamabad, Potohar region, Murree, Galiyat, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Okara, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Mandi Bahauddin, Hafizabad, Sargodha, Khushab, Noorpurthal, Faisalabad, Toba Tek Singh, Jhang, and Kasur.

Rain-wind/thunderstorm is also expected in Layyah, Bhakkar, Kot Addu, Sahiwal, Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, and Rahim Yar Khan from October 16 (evening or night) to 18, with occasional gaps.

In Sindh, rain or wind thunderstorms are also expected in Jacobabad, Kashmore, Shikarpur, Sukkur, Ghotki, Khairpur, Sanghar, and Umerkot on17 (evening or night) and 18.

In Balochistan, rain or wind thunder is also expected in Sherani, Musa Khel, Zhob, Qilla Saifullah, Loralai, Barkhan, Kohlu, Sibbi, Bolan, Kalat, Harnai, Naseerabad, Dera Bugti, Jaffarabad, Qila Abdullah, Pishin, Quetta, and Ziarat on 17 and 18.

About the impacts of the rain spell, the PMD has warned that moderate to heavy falls may increase water flows in local nullahs and streams and may trigger landslides in the vulnerable areas of Murree, Galliyat, Kashmir, GB, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Buner, Mansehra, and Abbottabad during the spell.

Heavy rain may generate urban flooding in Rawalpindi and Lahore on October 15 (evening or night).

Temperatures are likely to drop significantly as a result of the raincompelling populace to take out their warm clothes. Farmers are advised to manage their crop activities accordingly, while tourists and travelers are advised to remain cautious during the forecast period.
